HISTORY
Oilseeds are harvested from annual herbaceous plants belonging to different families and have in common the strong presence of fats in the interior, from which different food oils can be extracted.
Oilseeds are widespread throughout the world, and the origins of those grown by man are to be found in different regions of the planet.
The Flax has been domesticated in the Mediterranean areas while the Pumpkin, the Sunflower and the Chia seeds come from Central America. Hemp and Poppy are born spontaneously in the regions between the Fertile Crescent and the Indian subcontinent; finally, the origins of Sesame are quite uncertain, since it has spread for thousands of years in all regions of the tropical zone.
